Botox and Xeomin Q & A
What is Botox and Xeomin?
Botox and Xeomin are both FDA-approved neuromodulators made from botulinum toxin type A. They temporarily block nerve signals to the muscles, preventing contraction and softening the appearance of fine lines and dynamic wrinkles.
What are the benefits of Botox and Xeomin?
As nonsurgical treatments, Botox and Xeomin offer natural-looking results with minimal downtime. At Pure Dermatology, our board-certified dermatologists tailor every treatment to your unique facial anatomy and muscle movement patterns to enhance your cosmetic outcome.
In addition to reducing frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines, neuromodulators can be used for:
- Facial sculpting, such as slimming the jawline by relaxing the masseter muscles
- TMJ symptom relief
- Lip flip procedures to subtly enhance lip shape
- Neck bands and chin dimpling
- Prevention of deep-set wrinkles with early use
How does the treatment work?
At your visit, we’ll review your medical history, discuss your goals, and take a series of facial expression photos to document your baseline. Using a fine needle, your dermatologist will inject small amounts of product into the targeted muscles. The number of units and injection sites will vary depending on the area being treated.
After your procedure:
- Avoid rubbing or massaging the area for 24 hours
- Refrain from strenuous activity for the rest of the day
- Remain upright for at least 3–4 hours
You may begin to see results in 2–5 days, with full effects in about two weeks. Results typically last 3–4 months.
